Parabola, now available
Parabola is now available for download! This is a one-page sci-fi RPG that came about as a result of two ideas getting stuck in my head: a game where you charge your abilities with a short list of narrative actions (like "Focus" or "Lash out"), and a sci-fi setting where people have powers based on the four fundamental forces.
I followed those design concepts — quick, narrative beats leading to action and cool sci-fi powersets — through the rest of the design, and the result was a fairly minimal RPG that sits somewhere between Forged in the Dark games and FATE. I'm quite proud of how it all fit together, especially the if-you-know-it-you-know-it Lore system and the broad mechanical upgrades you can get.
With an easily moddable skill and power list and a simple core philosophy, I think Parabola has some potential to be hacked into other settings. The basic structure of Act/React/Advance is a useful one for pretty much any TTRPG design, and the different results you can get from one dice roll mean there's a lot of room to play with unique abilities and outcomes. I've never written something that seems so ready to be hacked like that before, so I'm going to take a bit of time to write a short SRD. If that's something you happen to be interested in, or if you have any ideas for alternate takes on the system, let me know!
In the meantime, thanks for checking out Parabola!
